Honest News vs Fake News

Posted: December 21, 2019

I think journalists have misinterpreted what the 45th president of the United States, Donald Trump,  has said when he says, "the fake news is the enemy of the people." He is not calling "news" the enemy of the people; he is calling "fake" news the enemy. What does "fake" mean? The dictionary defines the word "fake" as the following:

Fake - adjective: not genuine, counterfeit.

noun - a thing that is not genuine; a forgery or sham.

verb - forge or counterfeit (something).

The key words we can take from this definition are "not genuine", "forgery" and "counterfeit." In other words, dishonest.

Often times, we can get insight into a statement if we turn it inside out or around, so that is what I am going to do here. Here is my attempt to turn Trump's statement in the positive:

"The honest news is the ally of the people."

Therefore, Trump is not attempting to take away the freedoms of the press. In my opinion, he trying to get them to be honest. To do honest reporting; to be truthful, and not make up sources and stories. I've heard his statement misquoted so many times by mainstream news outlets as "The news is the enemy of the people." This is a totally misstatement and lie. The word "fake" has been taken out of his original statement. Why? You ask them or draw your own conclusions.

Be an ally to the people and report honestly. This is what Trump's statement is about. It has nothing to do with the freedom of the press' rights being trampled on and them being victims. This is about them being confronted and the press being accountable for their dishonest reporting and hidden agendas. The president is shining a light on their darkness (dishonest reporting), and these cockroaches (dishonest reporters) don't like it because their darkness is exposed. The answer: do honest reporting. Stop making up lies.
